The short version
Recordings, transcripts, call records and your account are stored in Sydney. To answer a call in real time, the live audio, the voice and the AI conversation are processed in the United States by ElevenLabs and Anthropic.
Why not keep everything in Australia?
The speech and language models that make a phone conversation sound natural, with no awkward pauses, currently run in the United States. We chose a receptionist callers are happy to talk to, and we'd rather tell you that plainly than bury it. If that changes, we'll update this page.
How this fits the Privacy Act
Ringout handles personal information under the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles. Because live call processing happens overseas, this is a cross-border disclosure under APP 8. The providers are listed above, and our privacy policy will set out how they're bound to protect the information.
Your part
- Every call tells the caller they're speaking with an AI, and callers are told before anything is recorded.
- If you have your own privacy policy, mention that calls may be answered by an AI service that processes audio overseas.
- Talk to us if your industry has specific rules about where health or other sensitive information can go.
Keeping, exporting and deleting
- Recordings and transcripts are kept for 90 days, then deleted automatically.
- You can ask for an export of your business's data at any time.
- If a caller asks to be forgotten, we delete their recording and personal details. A basic record that a call happened is kept for billing.
